Marko Jamnik, Curriculum Vitae

At 25, in 1988, I finally ventured into my first independent exhibition. At that time I was still brushing my practical skills as a photo lab assistant at the daily Dnevnik. Having expanded my links to several other newspapers and magazines, I left this regular job to pursue an independent career. In early 1990’s I started working for the weekly Mladina on regular basis, covering social themes, special reports and portraits of prominent politicians and other public figures. By that time, commercial photography has caught my eye, so I specialised in life style, fashion and foodstuff photography for Ars Vivendi and Viva magazines and several major Slovene marketing companies.
In the year 2000 I got registered as a free-lance photographer, self-employed full time. Later I became part-time photo editor for the monthly Kaprica. Very eagerly I’ve been keeping track with the digitalisation of photography, but as a counter balance, my interest in experimenting with film also increased.
The list of magazines that publish my work includes: Gloss, Ambient, Hiše, Elle, and Mecedes magazine…. All this time I’ve been exhibiting at home and abroad.

Marko Jamnik, kratek življenjepis

Potreboval sem celih 25 let, preden sem leta 1988 prvič samostojno razstavljal. To je bilo obdobje, ko sem še kalil svoje praktično znanje kot foto laborant v Časopisnem podjetju Dnevnik. Ker sem v tem času kot fotograf vedno več sodeloval z drugimi uredništvi časopisov in revij, sem službo pustil in se podal v nemirne vode samostojnega poklica. V začetku devetdesetih sem postal redni sodelavec tednika Mladina, kjer sem objavljal reportaže s socialno tematiko, z zanimivih dogodkov, pa tudi portrete znanih oseb iz politike in estrade. Objavljal sem tudi v revijah Ars Vivendi in Viva. Vedno bolj me je začela zanimti komercialna fotografija ( life style, moda, hrana….) in začel sem sodelovati z modnimi in trendovskimi revijami ter različnimi oglaševalskimi agencijami. Leta 2000 sem dobil status samostojnega ustvarjalca na področju kulture, kasneje pa delal honorarno kot foto urednik pri mesečni reviji Kaprica. Z velikim zanimanjem sem spremljal pohod digitalizacije v fotografijo, hkrati pa me je, kot protiutež, vedno bolj zanimal eksperiment s filmom.
Sodelujem še z revijami Gloss, Ambient, Hiše, Elle, Mercedes magazin in drugimi. Ves čas tudi redno razstavljam doma in v tujini.
